I liked the artwork on this bottle, and I felt it set the stage for a dangerous encounter. The Imperial Black IPA poured the requisite black with a large tan head the slowly reduced in size. I could smell roasted malt, hop bitterness, and a certain interesting woodiness. The taste was even better with dark chocolate, biscuit, caramel, light smoke, pine, and good amount of hop bitterness. I liked the full feeling that lingered in my mouth. It reminded me of a hoppier stout or an IPA with a fuller mouth feel. I haven't had many black IPAs, but this one definitely makes me want to venture deeper into the flavorful depths of this style.
Overall: 9/10
