I had spied this beer posted on The Local Pub's facebook updates to their draft list for a couple of weeks and was curious if it would still be on when I arrived. When I saw the tap handle I decided to give it a go to see if it would help to improve the very wet dark night. It was handed to me what appeared solid black in the low light with a medium amount of off white head. I couldn't smell much besides roast in the nose. The mouthfeel was very smooth and kind of silky. The flavor was a little weird with something I couldn't quite place. It had sort of a bourbon flavor that overpowered the roasted and toasted malt that was present. I was surprised that this beer didn't taste very hoppy and drank more like a porter or stout. It did have some lingering hoppy aftertaste though. I had high hopes for this beer, but it didn't quite do it for me.
Overall: 7/10
